The Catholic Faith

“At St Chad’s we grow in the light of Christ, to share his love and reflect the gospel values”

 Religious Education in our School

At St. Chad's Catholic Primary School, we follow the Archdiocese of Birmingham's curriculum strategy for Religious Education in Catholic Primary Schools called 'Learning and Growing as the People of God'. The strategy gives the children the opportunities to learn in a variety of fun and interactive ways.

On a weekly basis, Mass is celebrated in St. Chad's School. Parents and parishioners are invited to join the children and staff at this celebration, which the children regularly lead.

The children who have received First Holy Communion are given the opportunity to become alter servers, when they attend Sunday Masses regularly and this enables Father Gerry Breen or Father Gerry Lennon to have support when celebrating Mass in the school too.

The Sacraments

In Year 3 and Year 6, our Catholic children prepare to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Holy Communion and Confirmation. During the preparation process parents are invited and expected to; attend a variety of meeting to help them support their child in getting ready for the important Sacraments they are going to receive.

Year 3

In Year 3, our Catholic children prepare to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion.

During Religious Education lessons, the children are prepared for these Sacraments using specific units in the curriculum strategy 'Learning and Growing as the People of God'.

Parents are invited to attend an initial meeting which informs them of what and why Reconciliation and Holy Communion are an important part of their child's religious and spiritual growth. Then parents are asked to bring their child to an enrolment Mass at St. Chad's Cathedral as part of the preparation process.

When the children celebrate these Sacraments, Father Gerry Breen presides. The Sacrament of Reconciliation usually takes place during Lent. The Sacrament of Holy Communion takes place at a weekend Mass in May or June.

Year 6

Our Catholic children are prepared to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in Year 6.

During Religious Education lessons, the children are prepared for the Sacrament using specific units in the curriculum strategy 'Learning and Growing as the People of God'.

Parents are invited to attend an initial meeting which informs them of what and why Confirmation is an important part of their child's religious and spiritual growth. Then parents are asked to bring their child to an enrolment Mass at St. Chad's Cathedral as part of the preparation process.

When the children celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation, Archbishop Bernard Longley or Bishop Philip Pargeter presides. The Sacrament of Confirmation takes place on a specific date arranged with the Archdiocese of Birmingham during the school's academic year.
